Ignus Fatuus

cast-1

ig·nus fat·u·us : A phosphorescent light that hovers or flits over swampy ground at night.

The premise of this project was to create a resonant chamber that expressed the acoustical experience of particular song.

St. Germain’s song Montego Bay Spleen is a form of modern electronic jazz. A landscape was created using standard sewing pins imbedded in a incandescently lit slab of glycerine. The piece resonates the repose and discomfort experienced while listening to the song. The combination of the hazy, yet warm glycerine and the deceivingly soft pinned landscape, creates the machine-meets human quality typically heard in St. Germain’s music.
